Founder & cutter

The hand behind every gem

Laurie Brown is the founder, owner, and gem cutter of ElbeeGems. From his cutting bench, rough crystal becomes finished brilliance — studied for color and clarity, oriented for yield, then faceted and polished by hand.

This is not mass production. It is patient work at the lap: choosing the cut that honors the stone, setting angles for fire and depth, and finishing until the surface holds a clean, lasting sparkle.

When you inquire on a piece in the vault, you are speaking with the person who built this boutique — and cut the stone under careful eyes and steady hands.

Gem Journey

From rough crystal to finished brilliance

Every stone Laurie cuts follows the same patient path — studied, oriented, faceted, and finished one piece at a time.

  1. Gem cutter workbench with stones and tools

    Read the rough

Color, inclusions, and crystal habit decide the plan — not the heaviest carat, but the cut that lets the stone speak.

  2. Gem preform mounted on the faceting handpiece

    Shape the preform

The stone is oriented and dopped. Angles are set on the Ultra Tec before the first facet is cut.

  3. Orange gemstone being faceted on the cutting machine

    Facet for light

Pavilion and crown facets are cut for brilliance and life — each angle chosen to return light cleanly through the table.

  4. Macro photography setup for finished gemstones

    Polish & photograph

Final polish reveals true color and fire. Each finished gem is photographed for the vault with the same care as the cut.

  5. Ultra Tec V5 Classic faceting machine in the atelier

    Into the vault

The stone joins the ElbeeGems collection — ready for private inquiry, a custom setting, or a conversation with Laurie.

Cutter’s atelier

Cut for character — not for the catalog alone

Some stones are reserved as finished gems. Others can be discussed for a custom cut or setting. Either way, Laurie — founder and cutter — starts with the stone itself: what it wants to become.

Ask about a finished gem in the vault, a similar stone, or a custom cut. Inquiries are answered personally — with honest notes on color, proportions, and what the rough can give.
